Intervention B

2017

Intervention B is an Interactive Imagination Composition for an unlimited number of visitors at Punta della Dogana in Venice, Italy. Created without the use of technology, the piece unfolds organically in public space, inviting subtle acts of participation.

Each day around lunchtime, a chalk circle is drawn at the site, marking the beginning of the intervention. A local performer walks the perimeter, blending into the surroundings as most passersby remain unaware. When a visitor notices and engages, the composition shifts—initiating a quiet dialogue. I approach and invite the observer to briefly join, introducing them to the performance’s evolving structure.

Once inside the circle, the new participant receives whispered instructions from the performer—simple prompts to listen, walk, observe, or engage with the environment. As more participants step in, they too pass along instructions to others, creating a delicate choreography of interaction that continues until the collective energy dissipates.

Commissioned by DMG Sale Docks Venice, Intervention B reflects on the hidden layers of public space, offering fleeting moments of shared imagination. In a place as visually and culturally charged as Punta della Dogana, the work questions the economy of attention—where the unnoticed becomes a quiet stage, and the act of observation transforms into a shared, ephemeral performance. The piece blurs the boundaries between performer and spectator, allowing each visitor to shape and dissolve into the experience.
